Our History

Seasons passed, hands changed, but the land kept growing. Here’s our story through the years.

Bungawarra Wines Story
Original Vineyard

Before 1892

The vineyard started out growing table grapes. It passed through a few hands over the years — always a working patch of land with potential.

Angelo’s vision

1920s – 1970s

Angelo Barbagallo owned the place for over 50 years. He was the first to plant wine grapes here — we still thank him for his original vision.

New name, new direction

Around 1975

The vineyard became Bungawarra Wines. The focus shifted fully to wine grapes, and a new chapter began.

A New Chapter

1993

Jeff Harden took over in 1993 and started bringing the vineyard back to life, despite tough drought conditions. The cellar door reopened, more wines were made from our own fruit, and we started winning medals too!

Shakespeare under the Stars

2005

One magical summer night, A Midsummer Night’s Dream was performed here among the vines. It became a yearly tradition — 15 Shakespeare plays under the stars, right here at Bungawarra.

The Dream Continues

Today & Beyond

We’re still here, making small-batch premium wines with love, care, and a whole lot of heart. The dream lives on.

They are already naturals, and we love watching their connection to this place grow.
